The term “Cape Cod House” was used as early as 1800. It is believed that then Yale College president, Timothy Dwight, coined the term when visiting the Cape, but such lore is debatable. What is known is that the tough, stalwart angles of the Cape home was designed to weather the elements and became extremely popular. By 1740, such houses had been built throughout most of New England, and also on New York’s Long Island.
Today, the classic Cape home lives on, and with the dawn of the 1800s, soon sat alongside Gambrels, Garrisons, Salt Boxes, Federals, Colonials, and stunning Victorians and Greek Revivals.
Here, at Rockhill, our homes honor the past of 400+ years of architecture, bravery, and the ocean at our door.
Post tot Naufracia Portus: After so many Shipwrecks, a Haven. Incorporated as a town in 1637, a mere 17 years after the Mayflower landed in Provincetown, Sandwich lays claim to the title Oldest Town on Cape Cod. With a bustling and beautiful historic downtown, numerous traditions, and glorious beaches, Sandwich is one of the most beloved towns on the Cape. From Rockhill Estates’ high vantage point history has unfolded for more than four centuries, from the forming of a nation to the more than 3,000 shipwrecks including pirate gold ship, The Whydah, and British Revolutionary Warship HMS Somerset. Here, at Rockhill Estates, history is always on the horizon.
Each lot has a unique, one-of-a-kind designed home to maximize both light and view. While many people want to pick the lot and then pick the house they want on it, our goal is to maximize the beauty and design of every home on each lot – a true individual piece of architectural art that reflects the landscape.
Depending on the stage of construction, we can sometimes accommodate colors and styles.
On average, the homes take roughly 12 to 14 months to complete from groundbreaking to Certificate of Occupancy.
